When anxiety takes over
Anxiety often arrives uninvited. It shows up in racing thoughts, shallow breathing, a chest that feels too tight to hold all that we are carrying. The body speaks loudly when the soul is overwhelmed, and sometimes all it asks for is a pause. A small ritual, like lighting a candle, can become the doorway to calmness, a reminder that it’s safe to slow down and breathe.
The body keeps the map
Think of a day when everything felt too much, your mind restless, your stomach in knots, your shoulders heavy. These are not random sensations. The body keeps a map of our emotions: anxiety in the chest, fear in the stomach, sadness in the eyes, tension in the neck. Listening to these signals is the first step to healing.
A flame to release and return
Lighting a candle is more than creating light, it’s a way to give the body permission to release. The warm glow becomes a gentle presence, guiding you back to yourself.

Pause Ritual: Breathe–Hold–Release
Light your Pause candle in a quiet space. Sit comfortably and place one hand over your chest. As you watch the flame, match its rhythm with your breath: inhale for four counts, hold for two, exhale for six. With each breath out, imagine releasing the weight your chest has been carrying. Let the body speak, and let the light hold you.
Reflection
What part of your body is asking for a pause today? How can you honor it with gentleness instead of pressure?
